About Arturo Sandoval

Arturo Sandoval's renowned musicianship and composing abilities have earned him ten Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards, and an Emmy Award (For Love or Country soundtrack). His latest recording projects include the soundtrack for the movie Middleton and a tribute to Mexican singer/songwriter Armando Manzanero with Eternamente Manzanero. Those two recordings follow hot on the heels of the acclaimed Dear Diz, Every Day I Think Of You, a tribute to his mentor and friend jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie. Sandoval was a co-founder of Irakere, a band that mixed traditional Afro-Cuban music with jazz, classical, and rock and became one of Cuba's most popular groups. By 1981, Arturo was leading his own bands and touring internationally. He also appeared as a classical performer with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony, and Russia's Leningrad Orchestra. Throughout his career, Arturo has recorded or performed with a stylistically diverse group of artists, ranging from Stan Getz, Woody Shaw, and Dizzy Gillespie, to decidedly non-jazz fare with pop singers Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys. Sandoval's virtuosity on trumpet, flugelhorn, and piano—as well as his talent for composing—has earned him accolades and recognition all over the world. In addition to his masterful trumpet playing, Arturo is an excellent vocalist, as can be heard on Eternamente Manzanero. But, ultimately, it is his passion for music that he wishes to share with everyone.
