About Author Event: Romantic Haunts of Santa Cruz: Not Your Typical Valentine’s Day Story

Meet author Maryanne Porter at Scotts Valley Library on Saturday February 11 as she discusses her research into the paranormal for her book "Haunted Santa Cruz, California.”

Though generally thought of as a peaceful coastal city, Santa Cruz has a dark past. Porter’s book covers centuries of history, telling of lynchings, cemetery ghosts, and popular local haunted sites such as Brookdale Lodge and Sunshine Villa. Some of the most poignant stories of paranormal Santa Cruz involve romance, thwarted or otherwise. Is there a connection between haunted houses and forsaken love? What is the true story of the Lady in White, who is said to be wandering local cemeteries in search of her childhood love?

Sponsored by the Friends of Scotts Valley Library, a chapter of the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, the event will feature readings by the author, a question and answer session, and an opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of Porter’s book.
