Emerging Artist's Showcase

This concert will present the prize winners and laureates from the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival Youth Chamber Music Competition, open to students in Santa Cruz County and three neighboring counties. The competition is now in its 16th year, encouraging young student musicans who play classical chamber. The annual Emerging Artists Showcase allows the community to hear the excellent talent in this region performing music from the 18th to 20th centuries.

Featured are the 2018 first prize winning Epsilon Trio, 12th grade professionals playing Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2, second movement, and the second prize trio playing the finale of the Shostakovich Piano Trio No. 2. Highlights also include a Telemann Concerto for Four Violins performed by students of local violinist Cynthia Baehr, whose prize-winning violin duo Stanley and Laura Wang will perform from the J. S. Bach Double Violin Concerto in D Minor. Youson Park’s prize-winning Palo Alto area piano trio will play the Andante from Mozart’s Piano Trio in E-Flat Major (K 498).

The concert is free, with donations welcome. A generous contribution from Dean Silvers has made possible the award of cash prizes to the most outstanding groups.
