About Free Public Works Trolley Tours Celebrate City’s 150th Anniversary

In celebration of the City of Santa Cruz’s 150th anniversary, each Wednesday in September the Public Works Department is offering free trolley tours of its Recycling Center and award-winning Wastewater Treatment Facility. The tours board at Cedar and Lincoln streets opposite the Farmers Market at 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Space is limited with reservations recommended.

At 1:30 p.m. the trolley tours travel up the coast to the City’s recycling center, the Resource Recovery Facility. Passengers will see what happens to the 30 to 50 tons of material placed into Santa Cruz blue recycle bins each day. The duration of this tour is 90 minutes.

The 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. tours visit the award-winning Wastewater Treatment Facility for a look at the quality of life service provided to Santa Cruz citizens who generate about 7 million gallons of wastewater daily. The duration of this tour is 60 minutes.

Passengers will not get off of the trolleys. For reservations, please email [email protected].
