Grow-it-yourself and backyard veggie garden guru, Nadine Frush, is teaching a straw bale gardening workshop. Whether you want perfect tomatoes but only have a cement patio of a garden, or you want to easily get rid of a lawn and feed the family, straw bale gardens gets you great results.

In January, I was looking at my very messy (the bales do break down over the winter) but rich in compost & worms bales and decided to try growing tulip and hyacinth bulbs. Two months later - OMG - I have gorgeous bouquets in my house. So next fall, I am buying tons of tulips (I bought the Costco ones), hyacinths and any other cut flower bulb such as anemones and freesias, planting them in January (remember that I live on the central coast of CA). This has been like having liquid sunshine in the house on those rainy days.
