About Indigenous Landscapes; Talks About Land Management with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band

oin us for talks from Amah Mutsun Tribal Band Chairman Valentin Lopez, Kent Lightfoot, Ek Ong Kar, and Mark Hylkema to learn how lessons rooted in tribal practices can directly contribute to new protocols for managing public spaces.

Native Californians established productive landscapes, using fire to enhance the quantity and diversity of plant and animal communities. Now, a collaborative team of scholars from the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, California State Parks, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Berkeley are studying how the physical evidence from archaeological records can enhance the richness and diversity of native species, improve the health of biological communities, and minimize catastrophic fires. The findings of the project are directly relevant to the California State Parks and the Amah Mutsun Land Trust, who are generating plans for the ecological restoration of selected public lands on the Central California Coast.

This event is related to She Sang Me A Good Luck Song, which features contemporary photographs and artifacts from the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and contemporary photographs by Dugan Aguilar.
