About Introductory Session in the Art of Communication

The purpose of Nonviolent Communication is to speak and listen in a manner that creates an authentic connection and reduces defensiveness, blame, and subtle demands. The practice of NVC involves listening past another person’s criticism to hear the needs that they are trying to meet. And when we have needs that we want to express, it helps us express them in a way that is more likely to be heard.

NVC was developed by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D. It’s being taught all over the world by over 400 certified trainers (5 are here in Santa Cruz).

This introductory session is not intended as a series. We offer the “Basics” series for that purpose. Nevertheless, you are welcome to come to as many of these intro sessions as you like. We recommend it as a way to sample the different styles of our trainers, since the trainers rotate the responsibility of teaching this session.

All Intro’s are Sundays at 6:30-8:30

Jan 6 with Rick Longinotti

Feb 3 with Kristin Masters

Mar 3 with Jean Morrison

These introductory sessions are free in order to make them widely accessible. We always welcome donations in order to cover our costs. Please register below.
