Michael Mullen, Fiddler

Trained as a classical violinist, Michael Mullen has spent decades immersed in the idioms of fiddling particular to Scottish and Irish music. While he can tear it up with the best of them, as in his work with the well-known Californian Celtic bands, Tempest (11 CDs), the Wicked Tinkers, and others, he can also deliver as an enthralling interpreter of Celtic music that will send a shiver down the spine. As a solo performer he employs technology to accompany himself, using a looper to build, live, guitar and vocal accompaniment to his lead violin playing and singing. Hence the description, “Trio of One”.
