The California Powder Works (CPW) was the first explosives manufacturer in the West. When Du Pont acquired a controlling interest in the company in 1903 it was considered the “largest powder-making concern in the world.”
This exhibition draws from the research of California Powder Works historian Barry Brown. Through narrative, photographs, artifacts, and hands on activities, this exhibition tells the history of this extraordinary company and how it utilized the San Lorenzo River as the power source for it operations.
