About Evenings at the Estuary: Rising to the Challenge

Elkhorn Slough Reserve and Elkhorn Slough Foundation welcome you to Evenings at the Estuary — a series of free public events that will help you engage in important issues that impact our local community. Events in the series are free and open to the public, and will be held at the Reserve after our regular operating hours.

February 9, 2017 6–7pm | Rising to the Challenge:
Salt Marsh Resilience at Elkhorn Slough

Kerstin Wasson, Ph.D, ESNERR Research Coordinator
Dr. Kerstin Wasson of the Elkhorn Slough Reserve will
discuss the dynamics of a critical habitat within estuaries:
salt marsh. She will review the values of marshes to
wildlife and humans, and explain what salt marshes need
to survive.

She will examine threats to salt marshes at Elkhorn Slough, and what strategies can be employed to reverse them. She will focus on the vulnerability of salt marshes to sea level rise, and describe recent research and upcoming restoration projects addressing marsh resilience to rising waters.

We look forward to seeing you soon for Evenings at the Estuary!
