About Exploring How Gender Identity Impacts Eating Disorders & Body Image

Exploring How Gender Identity Impacts Eating Disorders & Body Image.

Join us for breakfast and a professional CE presentation at The Lotus Collaborative Santa Cruz. Open to all health professionals. Presented by Micah Hammond, LPCC, Director of Training and Program Development.

Overview:
It is a misconception that eating disorders impact primarily young, white, straight, cisgender females. There is a growing understanding through research that eating disorders disproportionately impact transgender and gender expansive individuals. This presentation will provide you with information and skills that will help you to better serve this under-recognized population. We will explore how the clinical issues that underlay eating disorders and body image are impacted if your client is transgender, gender expansive or exploring gender identity. We will discuss how to adjust your treatment approach to address and include gender identity as it relates to eating disorders.

Learning Objectives:
After this presentation participants will be able to:
1. Identify 14 adapted approaches to addressing the underlying issues of the eating disorder
2. Identify 3 methods for supporting your client to distinguish between negative body image related to gender dysphoria and the eating disorder.
3. List 5 ways you can create a gender-inclusive practice
4. Name community-based resources that you can provide to your clients
