Lecture on brood parasitism, a reproductive strategy of some interesting birds

Dr. Bruce Lyon, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Santa Cruz, will talk about the crazy reproductive antics of a common marsh denizen, the coot. Professor Lyon has had a distinguished career investigating the social behavior of animals, with a focus on the reproductive strategies of birds. By studying bird populations in North and South America he has greatly advanced our understanding of "brood parasitism" the phenomenon in which one bird lays its eggs in the nest of another bird. He is also an excellent teacher and photographer.
