About Poetry Slam Season Opener
First open Poetry Slam of the Season at the Tannery Arts Center. Come for a chance to compete to represent Santa Cruz at the National Poetry Slam.
We begin our 2015-2016 season after a short community open mic. Sign ups for both the slam and open mic begin at 5:30pm. The full schedule is as follows...
4pm - Free Poetry Workshop led by the Legendary Collective
6pm - Short Community Open Mic
6:45pm - The First LC Slam of the Season!!!
Last year the LC sent a competing team to the National Poetry Slam in Oakland, Califirnia where we placed in the top ten out of over seventy teams. This year the LC sent Jasmine Schlafke (Queen Jasmeen) to the Individual World Poetry Slam in Washington, DC and will be working to send our reigning Grand Slam Champion Raggedy Andey to represent our County in Brooklyn, New York at the Women of the World Poetry Slam. We have an intention to continue this success by curating a space that welcomes and highlights new voices, new writing, and new thought. Please come share your voice with us and be heard.
Participating slam poets must come prepared to share two poems, up to three minutes each in a two round competition. THIS SEASON ALL FIRST ROUND POEMS IN THE SLAM MUST BE NEW WORK. This means the poems read in the first round must have never before been read/ performed at the Legendary Slam. Second round poems for the slam can be anything you want. Participating slam poets cannot use costumes or props during competition and all poets who go over time will be docked points accordingly. First come first serve, there are 12 available slots. Season points given to the first through fourth placing poets are cumulative and dictate eligibility for finals which will be held in March. See The Legendary Collective Facebook group page (www.facebook.com/legendarycollective) for more information on LC upcoming events and announcements.
