About (POSTPONED) Pigeon Point New Volunteer Training
NOTE: This event has been postponed until a later, to be determined date.
Are you interested in history? Do you like sharing new stories and meeting new people? California State Parks is looking for volunteers interested in working at one of the tallest lighthouses on the west coast – the historic 115-foot tall Pigeon Point Lighthouse!
Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park will be hosting a training class for new volunteers in April and May of 2020. We enjoy meeting people who are willing to commit their time and energy to the educational mission of the Park, and we look forward to gathering together a new class of enthusiastic docents for our 2020 spring training. Classes will be held on April 18th, April 25th, and May 2nd.
Upon successful completion of the docent training course, docents will:
• Greet visitors from around the world.
• Interpret the cultural and natural history of the park, including the First Order Fresnel lens on display in the interpretive center.
• Help visitors spot whales and other marine wildlife from the viewing deck.
• Operate the park store which sells educational materials and items related to the lighthouse.
Docents are required to work at least one 7-hour shift (9:30 AM – 4:30 PM) each month. The commitment is for a minimum of one year. The minimum age requirement is 15 years old; minors under the age of 18 will require parental consent. The park is currently staffed Thursdays – Mondays.
If this sounds like a volunteer commitment you are interested in, please contact Joe Rogers at [email protected] or call (650) 879-2120 to reserve your seat!
