COIAB is a non-profit, private-law indigenous organization founded on April 19, 1989, on the initiative of leaders of indigenous organizations existing at the time and with the mission of defending the rights of indigenous peoples to land, health, education, culture and sustainability of indigenous peoples and organizations, considering their diversity, aiming at their autonomy through articulation and strengthening.
The organization emerged as a result of the process of political struggle of indigenous peoples for the recognition and exercise of their rights, in a scenario of social and political transformations that occurred in post-constituent Brazil. It is the largest indigenous organization in Brazil and covers the nine states of the Brazilian Amazon (Amazonas, Acre, Amapá, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins); they are local associations, regional federations, women's organizations, teachers and indigenous students.
This event is taking place because we feel it is extremely important to help our brothers and sisters around the world. These tribes have been deeply affected by the devastation of the recent fires .Lets do our part to help them rebuild and sustain.
