Science Sunday—Eelgrass Restoration Success in Elkhorn Slough
About Science Sunday—Eelgrass Restoration Success in Elkhorn Slough
Seagrasses are in global decline despite restoration efforts. To date, the majority of these efforts have been unsuccessful. Locally, Elkhorn Slough suffered massive seagrass loss in the mid 1900s. Since 1980, there has been some natural recovery in the slough—though small relative to historical extent. Unfortunately, that rate of recovery has plateaued in recent years. Can research improve local eelgrass recovery? What will the benefits be? How will restoration affect biodiversity, water quality, and the productivity of Elkhorn Slough?
