About Science Sunday—Sea Star Wasting Syndrome: An Unfolding Story

Sea star wasting syndrome has taken a heavy toll on Monterey Bay’s sea star populations in the last five years. Among the hardest hit species were the ochre stars, iconic tidepool residents and important keystone predators. Researchers are searching for potential culprits, documenting the spread of this disease, and tracking sea star recovery along the Pacific Coast. Scientists are also monitoring tidepools for changes related to the ochre stars’ absence.

Join the Seymour Marine Discovery Center to learn about the unfolding research surrounding this disease and how sea star wasting syndrome affects Monterey Bay.
