About Tibetan Uprising Day, 62nd Annual Intl. Protest (Part 1 of 2 In-Person Protest)

Since the Chinese occupation in 1959, more than one million Tibetans have been killed. To fly a Tibetan flag, send an email abroad, or say the phrase “human rights,” is cause for imprisonment and torture. 99% of all Tibetan monasteries have been closed. Many of us were recently horrified by the brutal beating and killing of 19-year-old monk Tenzin Nyima, who spoke up after local Tibetans were forced to praise China and the Chinese Communist Party’s “Poverty Alleviation” policy, which has seen hundreds of thousands of Tibetan nomads forcibly relocated, forced into poverty, and forced to sell or slaughter the livestock they depend on. Recently, three teenagers were arrested for not registering their "We Chat" discussion group (similar to "Whats App) with the authorities. A 17-year old emerged with two broken legs, so severe was his beating while in custody. The Tibetan people and their culture are being systematically attacked. Yet, they continue to stand up against this repression and violence, in a non-violent way, as they have each year, for 62 years. We cannot let the world forget. Please lend your voice to peace, justice, and freedom: Support Tibet!

Join us on Wednesday, March 10th, 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Windows on the Bay (corner of Del Monte and El Estero) as we join a day of international protests known as Tibetan Uprising Day. Signs provided, or you may bring your own. We will be there rain or shine.

Please note: All protesters MUST wear masks and stay six feet from one another. Protesters cannot step into the street or hand out leaflets to cars, as per a city safety mandate.

Following the in-person protest, we will have an “Online Tibetan Uprising Day” from 6:30pm to 8:00pm PT and sing protest songs, learn more, and pray. More information here: http://manjushridharmacenter.org/event/tibetan-uprising-day-protest-in-person-and-online/2021-03-10/2/
