About Virtual Science Sunday—From Seabird Soundscapes to Student Success: How We Meet the Needs of 21st-Century Conservation
Abraham Borker, Ph.D.
Program Director, UC Santa Cruz Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program
Conservation in the 21st century needs two major transformations: how it is measured, and who is doing the work. In the first half of the webinar, explore how to tune the ear (and computer algorithms!) to better measure conservation outcomes using the example of seabird populations. Acoustically island-hop around the Pacific and learn how soundscapes can be used to strengthen seabird conservation. Just as advanced tools and technology are needed to improve how conservation efforts are measured, a transformative change in the leadership of conservation is needed to represent the diversity of voices in the United States. In the second half of the webinar, discover how UC Santa Cruz Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program is cultivating a diverse community of emerging leaders for a just and effective conservation movement.
Join Abe to learn more about seabird soundscapes, conservation outcomes, and how UC Santa Cruz is cultivating transformative change in the conservation movement.
