Green Day Cancels Tour, Dec. 4 Show at Santa Cruz Civic

Green Day announced today it was cancelling all of its club tour dates for 2012, including its planned Dec. 4 show at the Santa Cruz Civic.

The band has been on hiatus since September, when lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong checked himself into a rehab facility after breaking down onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

Armstrong checked into the facility to deal with substance abuse issues after launching into a rant at the MGM Grand, in which he dropped numerous f-bombs and lashed out against the time restrictions placed on Green Day’s set. The planned “¡UNO!, ¡DOS!, ¡TRÉ!” tour, scheduled to start Nov. 26, was in limbo for weeks, until today’s announcement.

“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” said bassist Mike Dirnt in a statement.  “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

The band’s had already cancelled a Sept. 28 date at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and a set at the Voodoo Music Experience over the weekend in New Orleans.

There is no word yet on whether the Santa Cruz Civic show or any of the other 2012 dates will be rescheduled. Refunds are available at the place of purchase. Dates that were set for early 2013 are being postponed.

The band also announced it will move up the release of the third album in its three-album set, Tre, to Dec. 11 from its original January date. The first volume, Uno, was released in September with Dos arriving on Nov. 13.
