Today marked the first meeting of a new advisory committee tasked with drafting recommendations on medical cannabis cultivation for Santa Cruz County. The 13-member committee, formed under the direction of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, includes cannabis growers, providers, planners, environmental health officials, legal experts and advocates.

Today’s meeting was the first in a series planned, with the committee scheduled to finish its work by late December. At that time, the recommendations will be presented to the Board of Supervisors and used to inform a new ordinance regulating medical cannabis cultivation in Santa Cruz County.

Members of the public, whom are welcome to attend and offer comments, also attended the inaugural meeting. You can follow the progress of the committee, review background documents, and agenda materials at http://www.scc4.us/. The website also includes a blog, “Cannabis Chronicles.”
