About Art Reception-- Findings: Excerpts from the Sabbatical Studies of Dawn Nakanishi and Rebecca Ramos

Public reception for Findings: Excerpts from the Sabbatical Studies of Dawn Nakanishi and Rebecca Ramos.

This exhibition presents a narrative installation of research materials and artwork produced by Nakanishi and Ramos during their recent sabbaticals from Cabrillo College, where both are beloved long-term full time faculty.

Nakanishi uses traditional Japanese design motifs as intuitive connections between nature and her cultural heritage. She researched the Japanese decorative metal craft process of Mokume Gane or “Wood Eye” pattern development for use in small metals and jewelry.

Through her studies of Hawaiian indigenous and endemic plants, Rebecca Ramos connects interdependent topics of material culture, nation building, ecology and the environment, cultural identity and the visual arts. Ramos works in printmaking and drawing.
