About Latino Role Models Conference

The 10th annual Latino Role Models conference will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Cabrillo College’s Crocker Theater from 9:00AM to 1:30PM. The conference is free and lunch will be provided. Students in grades 6 through college and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend this exciting conference featuring Latino professionals to inspire students to achieve their dreams for college and career. The conference will be conducted in Spanish with English translation via headsets.

The keynote speaker will be Reyna Grande, award-winning author of the bestselling memoir, The Distance Between Us, where she writes about her life before and after she arrived in the United States from Mexico as an undocumented child immigrant.

Other presenters will include professionals from television, film, agriculture, education, and the arts, as well as a family sharing their education pathway. Erandi García from Telemundo will moderate the conference, with remarks by Dr. Matthew Wetstein, Cabrillo President; Dr. Faris Sabbah, County Superintendent of Schools, Alejandra Bologna Zubikarai, Consul General Mexico-San Jose, and Fe Silva, Senderos Director.

Representatives from Cabrillo College, Cal State Monterey Bay, and UC Santa Cruz will provide information about admissions, financial aid, and student resources and activities. Last year over 450 students and family members attended.

The Latino Role Models Conference was created by Senderos ten years ago and is now presented in collaboration with: Bay Federal Credit Union, Cabrillo College: Office of Student Equity / Associated Students / Financial Aid / Cabrillo Hispanic Affairs Council (CHAC); Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County; Consulate General of Mexico in San Jose; Greater Opportunities for Adult Learning (GOAL); Kaiser Permanente; Live Oak School District, Pajaro Valley Unified School District; Santa Cruz City Schools; Santa Cruz County Office of Education; Santa Cruz County College Commitment; Santa Cruz Education Foundation; Senderos; Soquel Union Elementary School District; UC Santa Cruz: The Humanities Institute / Division of Undergraduate Education / Division of Student Success.
