Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks celebrates 35 years of helping the Santa Cruz community connect with the natural world with an evening of gourmet appetizers, desserts and ocean views at the Dream Inn.

Founded in 1976 as The Monterey Bay History Association, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks now takes on a big role in helping keep state parks vibrant and alive, explains executive director Bonny Hawley; each year more than 327,601 visitors participated in over 4,000 education programs funded by the organization. “Friends supports everything from educational programs such as school field trips, projects such as fixing up the visitors’ centers, to advocacy,” Hawley says. Advocacy has become especially important, since 70 state parks were listed to close last year, including three in Santa Cruz. Hawley says that Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks funds these endeavors by “raising money through community.”

Local historian Sandy Lydon and County Treasurer Fred Keeley will speak at the event. They will also be auctioning off “some really cool, behind-the-scenes experiences to have in our parks,” Hawley says, such as a personalized fiesta at Santa Cruz mission and a Victorian tea party at Wilder Ranch.

FRIENDS OF SANTA CRUZ STATE PARKS 35TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY is Tuesday, Dec. 13, 6pm-9pm at The Dream Inn, 175 West Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz. $100.

If you are a friend of state parks, you probably want to know about the Mansfield mansion that is planned for Moore Ranch Road in Bonny Doon.

The property is owned by 1%ers who want to build a castle that will be visible from the coast for miles. They refuse to provide “story poles” so that we can actually see for ourselves what a blight this will be on lands that we have been fighting for decades to preserve. We did not do that so that rich out-of-towners can build their trophy homes.

I am the project planner for this proposed dwelling. To clarify, story poles HAVE been in place on the site for approximately three weeks. I have not found a vantage along the coast from which I can see the poles. However, I have not had a chance to view the house location from within Wilder Ranch. If anyone has photo documentation showing the story poles from any public viewshed, please contact me at your earliest convenience, as I am eager to see what you have found.

As a County Planner (and Bonny Doon resident), I am keenly aware of the importance of protecting our precious coastal views and natural resources from the encroachment of the built environment.

It does trouble me, however, that the characterization of the property owner as a “rich out-of-towner” should be seen as integral to the conversation about land use and impacts to resources.

I know that emotions run high when concerned citizens are engaged in protecting their environment, but it does a disservice to the practice of community planning to use the income or residency of the property owner as a barometer of the worth of a project.

The point when students and other learners are given the assignment of inquiring about or making presentation then they looked busy in arranging the assignments on time so that they can get maximum marks. This is conceivable just in case they have guidelines. That is why I recommend the best essay writing service!
