A small brushfire that broke out yesterday afternoon between Harvey West Business Park and UC Santa Cruz was extinguished quickly by fire crews on the ground and a Cal Fire helicopter. The 30-foot square blaze was first reported at 3:21 pm and doused by 4:00. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined but a fire official cited by the Santa Cruz Sentinel said it was likely caused by discarded smoking material. Last September, five fires broke out at Pogonip in a two-week period; at least two were arson. Read more at the Sentinel.
