Devestation Down Under

Local Zen Buddhist Priest and Extinction Rebellion member Antoinette Parekh will give a talk about her painful journey back to Australia over the recent holidays. With slides from her trip, she will describe the impacts of the fires on the landscape, animals and people. She will also talk about how the Australian government’s policies, including a reliance on coal exports, deny the threat of climate change, and share how this catastrophe might help galvanize action on the climate emergency. The presentation will be part of an introduction to Extinction Rebellion (XR) Santa Cruz. XR is a worldwide, non-violent direct action movement which rose to prominence last April, during a London-based rebellion which resulted in the UK Parliament declaring the first national Climate Emergency two weeks later.
