Martin Luther King Day of Service 2020
About Martin Luther King Day of Service 2020
The Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County and fellow non-profits are gearing up for a day of community action for Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan 20, 2020.
Each year hundreds of local residents are inspired to carry the principles of Dr Martin Luther King Jr forward through a day of service activities.
Space is available for individuals, groups, and families to help maintain local beaches, support community members in need, or revitalize outdoor spaces throughout Santa Cruz County.
Among those programs and nonprofits helping to organize service projects are CityServe, Community Connection, Evergreen Historical Cemetery, Homeless Garden Project, Meal on Wheels, Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, and UCSC Arboretum.
While most projects will happen in Santa Cruz, Community Connection is hosting a project at the Mariposa Wellness Center in Watsonville to install a community garden and beautify the neighborhood. Additionally, YouthServe has a Watsonville book drop location for those who want to support their Book Drive for kids.
Community members are encouraged to learn more and register in advance for these projects via the Volunteer Center website at scvolunteercenter.org.
Those who are not able to register in advance online can drop-in on the day of at the Volunteer Center MLK Day of Service Celebration from 12-2 PM at Santa Cruz Bible Church (440 Frederick St. Santa Cruz). All are welcome for light refreshments, coffee, and volunteer projects that include card making for Meals on Wheels clients.
