About Megan Saunders at the Ugly Mug

The music of Megan Saunders has been described as “…evocative enough to enchant and warm and soft enough to cling to like a faded quilt fresh off a windblown line…” (Tom Miller, concert programmer). She is known for songs that build a sense of story and place, and a sound that ranges from playful to luminous to haunting. Often compared to Emmy Lou Harris, Kate Wolf and Nick Drake, she employs tenor guitar, banjo and nimble vocals to create a space that “…evokes a summer breeze through a field, and a visit to the pub that very same night…“ (Scott Frank, VT Arts Blog). Saunders grew up in Vermont, now lives in Tennessee, and has released two albums, The Driftless (2012) and Long For The Dory (2014), as well as singles and albums in collaboration with artists from the US, Canada, Europe and beyond. She has won several national awards for singing and composing, including the Song of the Year award for songwriting in the Americana genre, and currently sits on the board of the Chattanooga Songwriter’s Association. This is a special show with Santa Cruz native, Jeff Kissell (Marty O’Reilly and TOSO, MAJK) sitting in on double bass.
