The owner of Tom Teifer Santa Cruz tells us what’s on her mind.

What do you do for a living?
Help women find great looking clothing and look beautiful at Tom Teifer Santa Cruz!

What would you be doing if you didn’t do that?
Work with animals; primates—gorillas or orangutans—maybe; and I love dogs and was raised with horses, so I’d have to say I’d work with animals in some capacity.

What do you do in your free time?
Free time? What is that??? Seriously, when I have free time I relax reading and walking on West Cliff with my little dog, Ozzie.

What brought you to Santa Cruz?
My good friend Tom Teifer brought me here from Southern California to help him run the store.

What’s your favorite street?
In New York it would be Central Park West for its nearness to Central Park and its lovely architecture; in Santa Cruz it’s West Cliff Drive, with its sunrises, sunsets, otters and gorgeous views.

Name a fashion trend you’re excited about.
There are so many great styles out there that can suit anyone. AND we are definitely finding the professional women here—or they are finding us. Women here don’t really want to go “over the hill” (in any way) if they can avoid it! Our Santa Cruz client wants the casual when she wants it and the dressy when she wants that

What’s an overlooked fabric or style you’d like to see get more play?
Bamboo is a wonderful fabric; we also love the many “travel” fabrics available, which can go from plane to dinner without a wrinkle!

Name a pet peeve, fashion or otherwise.
Big pet peeve—lots of women wear clothing that is too baggy and doesn’t flatter their shape. A well-fitted garment flatters the body no matter what type or size.

What are you reading?
Right now, Water for Elephants. Just finished The Passion of Artimesia—wonderful!

Secret star crush?
Maybe not “crushes,” but I’ll watch anything with Gary Sinese, Colin Firth, or Edward Norton. Oh, and John Cusack. And Viggo Mortensen. I’ll stop now.
