Allison Miller Boom Tic Boom Sextet
About Allison Miller Boom Tic Boom Sextet
½ Price Night for Students. Tickets at the door only with valid I.D.
New York City-based drummer and bandleader Allison Miller has always pulled inspiration from a wide array of sources and genres. Described by critics as a charismatic and rhythmically propulsive drummer with melodic sensibility, she’s been named a “Rising Star Drummer and “Top 20 Jazz Drummer” by DownBeat Magazine over the years. Alongside the jazz cred, she has toured with contemporary folk artists such as Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant and Brandi Carlile. As The New Yorker writes: “Miller’s craftiness as a percussionist is met by her ingenuity as a composer and group conceptualist.” Leading her band Boom Tic Boom Sextet, Miller’s current set list features tunes from their latest album, Otis Was a Polar Bear. Featuring Myra Melford on piano, Jenny Scheinman on violin, Kirk Knuffke on cornet, Ben Goldberg on clarinet and Todd Sickafoose on bass, the group is at times both esoteric and accessible. It’s sly, yet tough, virtuosic but not overbearing. The group is centered on the surprises birthed of collective improvisation and evocative textures, employing strong rhythmic, chordal, brass and string arrangements.
