Amendola vs. Blades

When legendary organist Dr. Lonnie Smith names you “…the future to carry on the legend, the legacy…of the B-3” it’s not said on a lark, and Wil Blades is certainly living up to the distinction. Blades is a master of the Hammond B-3, with its liquid vibrato, percussive attach and gospel overtones. Drummer Scott Amendola is known to many for his lengthy collaboration with Charlie Hunter. A highly melodic and intuitive improviser, few drummers can handle a duo setting with such ease. After having known and played with each other for over ten years, it was only a matter of time before these two virtuosos combined forces on an album. The resulting project, Amendola vs. Blades, as they like to be known and their album Greatest Hits, highlights their dexterous original compositions and was recorded in front of a live audience, capturing the in-the-moment essence of their collaboration.
