About Avishai Cohen Quartet

½ Price Night for Students. Tickets at the door only with valid I.D.
Trumpeter Avishai Cohen debuts music from his new recording, Into the Silence. Voted three years in a row as a Rising Star in DownBeat magazine’s Critics Poll, Avishai has been winning accolades as a talent to watch. The New York Times compared his style to that of the legendary Clifford Brown, praising him as “an assertive, accomplished trumpeter with a taste for modernism.” Previously, Cohen has been a member of the SFJAZZ Collective. He also plays in The 3 Cohens Sextet with his older siblings, clarinet sensation Anat and saxophonist Yuval. Currently, Avishai leads an A-list quartet featuring pianist Jason Lindner – Lindner played with Donny McCaslin and David Bowie on Blackstar, Bowie’s enigmatic, final recording project. Cohen’s bassist, Tal Mashiach, has quickly made a name for himself in New York’s jazz scene since relocating from his native Israel, and drummer Nasheet Waits (son of drum legend Freddie Waits), was an original member of Jason Moran’s Bandwagon, a group JazzTimes called, “the most exciting rhythm section in jazz.” Led by Cohen’s lyrical virtuosity on the trumpet, Lindner, Mashiach and Waits take modern music to a new level.
