About Calenda/Procession & Cooper Street Fiesta

Senderos invites you to join the FREE music, dance, food street party FIESTA, an introduction to the Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza festival. The Calenda is a traditional Oaxacan procession of musicians and dancers which will travel down Pacific Avenue sidewalk from the Town Clock, arriving at Cooper Street, downtown Santa Cruz at 5:00pm. Cooper Street will be closed for the fiesta until 7:30pm.

There will be wonderful Banda de Viento music by students visiting from San Bartolomé Zoogocho, Oaxaca, dancing by Centeotl Danza y Baile, and music by Senderos' youth band Ensamble Musical. Oaxacan tamales, memelas, and tejate beverage for sale to benefit Senderos, an all-volunteer nonprofit in Santa Cruz providing free dance and music classes, tutoring and scholarships for Latino youth.

The all-day Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza cultural food, dance, music, crafts festival will take place Sunday, May 21 at Harbor High School field from 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
