Cécile McLorin Salvant & Aaron Diehl Present “Jelly & George”

Cécile McLorin Salvant, Aaron Diehl and Adam Birnbaum team up to present Jelly & George, the music of Jelly Roll Morton and George Gershwin. Morton—the self-proclaimed “inventor of jazz”—and Gershwin, who incorporated the spirit of jazz into his popular orchestral compositions, have had a lasting impact on American music. Their compositions are sublimely rendered by pianists Diehl (Monterey Jazz Festival's Commission Artist for 2014) and Birnbaum with vocalist Salvant (winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk Institute competition), who The New York Times calls, “the finest jazz singer to emerge in the last decade.” The musical legacies of Jelly Roll Morton and George Gershwin have never had it so good.
