About Contra Dance and Hambo Workshop

Come join a contra dance from 6-9 p.m. November 10 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 846 Front St. downtown Santa Cruz. Lynn Ackerson calls to tunes by Rodney Miller & Daniel Steinberg.

Contra dance is a traditional New England style of folk dancing, in which each dance is taught and prompted by a caller.

A partner is not required and prior dancing experience is not necessary. New dancers are encouraged to attend a free lesson 30 minutes before the regular dance.

Suggested admission donation is $12 regular, $8 for full-time students with ID card. Wear comfortable, non-marking shoes, and comfortable loose-fitting light-weight clothing.
Special opportunity - come early for a Hambo Workshop! Hugh Zike teaches.
“The hambo is a traditional dance that originated in Sweden in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is a couple dance in 3. 4. time, danced to music played with a strong accent on the first beat and a tempo that varies from moderate to fast (100 to 120 beats per minute).” (Wikipedia)
