About Grand Opening of The Chamber of Heart and Mystery

Opening Sept. 2 as part of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History’s First
Friday festivities, the Chamber of Heart and Mystery is the fictional study of Dr. Cora X.
Crux, renowned explorer of the heart and its mysteries. Dr. Crux is currently away on one
of her expeditions and has opened her study to the public, allowing us to observe her
Cabinets of Curiosities and use the other devices she has created in service to discovering
the mysteries of the heart. The Magic Lantern Theater, Image Cubes, Bureau of Discovery,
and Heart Phone will be available to visitors. The Chamber of Heart and Mystery will be on
display in the Lezin Gallery on the first floor of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History.
The Chamber is a portal to The Word Lab, an afternoon writing lab at MAH for local public
school students opening Oct. 3. The Chamber and Word Lab are the brainchildren of local
children’s book author David Zeltser and Young Writers Program Executive Director, Julia
Chiapella. Both will be operated by the Young Writers Program which is sponsored in part
by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education.
