Ralph Abraham—renowned mathematician, historian and raconteur—has chronicled the early 60’s in Santa Cruz in his new book, Hip Santa Cruz. The book and the companion website chronicle the stories of people who, in the early 60's, woke up this sleepy retirement village with art, music, creativity, psychedelics, alternative schools, communes, protest, and a truly magical way to apprehend the world. And, while the characters, places and events might not all be familiar to us, their presence is still rich in our daily life here.
