About Hristo Vitchev Quartet

Hailing from Sofia, Bulgaria, guitarist Hristo Vitchev creates, as Jazziz magazine describes, “impressionistic sound paintings.” Since his 2009 recording debut, Vitchev has toured across the globe and has nearly 300 compositions to his name. Central Coasters may remember Vitchev’s seven-movement “The Perperikon Suite,” which premiered at the 2010 Monterey Jazz Festival and was inspired by the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon (located in present-day Bulgaria). This year’s In Search of Wonders marks his sixth release as a leader and showcases the multidimensional tonality of his quartet taking the listener through jazz, classical, new age and experimental music, while retaining the glassy harmonies and guitar lines that have brought Vitchev critical acclaim. The San Jose Mercury News writes that, “Vitchev is an artist who wears his emotions on his sleeve…[providing] a master class in the way a chord of harmonic progression can evoke a flood of sensations.” The interplay of this foursome is intricate and pulses with intensity, beauty and passion.
