About Imagining the Downtown Commons

With insufficient support on the City Council for a 600-space parking garage on the site of the Farmers Market lot, Downtown Commons Advocates, a group of Downtown business owners and community members, is encouraging the community to make that location a public gathering space for community organizations and activities. How can that space become an improved Town Commons? Mark Lakeman, Portland-based architect and designer of community spaces, will present information about building community through creating our common spaces. The meeting is Friday, March 29 at 7 pm at Louden Nelson Community Center, 301 Center Street in Santa Cruz. Auto parking is available across Laurel Street at the Police Department lot. Bicycle racks are available at Louden Nelson and the Police Department lot. Suggested donation: $10-$20.
