About Jack DeJohnette Trio

Jack DeJohnette is indeed a renaissance man: drummer, bandleader, composer, and pianist. At age 74, the indefatigable jazzman is moving full speed ahead, adding more accomplishments to his prolific five-decade legacy. His current group – pianist George Colligan and bassist Jerome Harris – expertly navigates through post-bop and avant-garde territory with ease. In the psychedelic era of the mid-’60s, DeJohnette was a member of the Charles Lloyd Quartet, one of the few jazz groups to play at Bill Graham’s Fillmore rock emporium. In 1969, at the dawn of the fusion era, he drummed for Miles Davis on the groundbreaking Bitches Brew album. In the ’70s, DeJohnette led or co-led several acclaimed groups, including the Gateway Trio, Directions, and New Directions. He formed the eclectic, stylistic diverse Special Edition band in the early ’80s and joined the world-renowned Keith Jarrett Trio in 1983. In the ’90s, he collaborated with Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, and many other fine artists. In 2009, DeJohnette’s Peace Time recording won a Grammy award for Best New Age Album. Jack was awarded a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Fellowship in 2012 for his life’s work.
