Jane Bunnett and Maqueque

With five JUNO Awards now under her belt, including the 2015 Jazz Album of the Year for her latest LP Maqueque, celebrated Canadian soprano saxophonist/flautist Jane Bunnett has for over thirty years spanned the gap between Cuban and North American music by introducing some of Cuba’s finest musicians to the international jazz community. Now, with her new sextet Maqueque, (translated as “spirit of a young girl”) she infuses her lyrical, rhythmically-vibrant Afro-Cuban arrangements with the powerful energy of an all-female band featuring lush, soulful vocals and brilliant instrumentals.
