Linda Tillery is a Bay Area legend. The soulful vocalist/percussionist first gained attention with San Francisco group The Loading Zone during the psychedelic era of the late '60s. She recorded her debut solo album for CBS Records in 1970 and worked as a freelance recording session musician through most of the '70s before becoming a house musician and producer for Olivia Records. She recorded her second solo album in 1977 on the Olivia label which specialized in promoting women artists. By the 1990s, Tillery switched gears and immersed herself into the music of Africa. She formed the Cultural Heritage Choir—a percussion driven vocal ensemble—and also sings with Skin Tight, a popular Bay Area jazz/blues group. Celebrate the King is her most recent recording.
