Mad Cow Disease, Prions and Why There’s No Cure for Alzheimer’s Disease

About Mad Cow Disease, Prions and Why There’s No Cure for Alzheimer’s Disease

Glenn Millhauser, Ph. D., is a distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCSC. He uses biophysical methods to study neurological proteins, their cofactors and how misregulation contributes to disease. He will discuss the medical implications of this research on prion protein (PrP). This highly abundant protein of the central nervous system is essential for neuron health and maintenance. “Our findings may lead to new therapeutic approaches for prion and related neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease,” says Dr. Millhauser.
