About Making A Practice of Having A Practice Workshop

Perhaps it is your practice in the waning days of the “old year” to reflect on what has been, as well as to contemplate the “new year” that soon will be.

In that spirit, if part of your process of reflection and contemplation has to do with the practices in your life — such as martial arts, painting, journaling, meditation, yoga — then this workshop may be a timely opportunity for you!

We invite you to join us in exploring and sharing this process in a group setting. The energy and engagement of a committed group can greatly support each of us to find inspiration and resolve in the upcoming year.

Thanks for reading and considering!

Warmly,
Jeanne & David

P.S. Kindly forward this invitation to others who may be interested in participating.

MAKING A PRACTICE OF HAVING A PRACTICE

In this workshop, we will explore diverse strategies for initiating or reviving, as well as strengthening, enriching and sustaining a practice—with passion and determination!

This dynamic hands-on collective experience is for you, if

- You have an ongoing practice and feel that it has become stale or you have been wavering in your commitment.

- You had a practice which was once an integral part of your life, but you have lost touch with it and are now eager to commit again.

- You want to begin a new practice, be it one you have been thinking about for a while or have only recently started to consider.

- You are engaged in an activity now and wish to elevate it into a full-fledged dedicated practice.

This workshop will also explore which qualities a ‘successful’ practitioner needs to develop and embody. Some of the questions are:

- What strategies address the challenges of integrating a long-term clarity of purpose with an ‘in the moment’ focus?

- How does the practitioner balance the dual roles of observer and participant?

- What attitude can the practitioner cultivate as the practice matures to enable it to evolve in new and surprising directions?

During our time together, we will move, write, observe, draw, share and discuss, as we embark on a collective journey of experimentation and discovery.

Our core belief is that there exists a greater potential than we often realize for visionary action and transformative interaction, especially when we work across disciplines, cultures and generations.

David Lakein is an interdisciplinary artist and educator; he teaches and performs internationally. Their collaboration is an outgrowth of their individual interests and experiences, shared passions, and inter-generational relationship.
