About Opening Reception: Unapologetically Black Art
Opening Reception, First Friday, December 6th 2019. Enjoy an evening of art, food, culture, music, and a panel discussion with the featured artists about what is means to be a black artist in today’s world.
Join the Resource Center for Nonviolence as we explore black art in Santa Cruz. Featuring work from over 11 black artists from in and around the Santa Cruz area featuring a broad spectrum of mediums ranging from wood carvings, to ink, to poetry.
Featured artists include: Kalikata Mbula, Justice Renaissance, Karren Moorer, TheArthur , Elijah Pfotenhauer, Devi Pride, Kendra Dosenbach, Valeria Miranda, Dwight Tashann Chism, Robert Endacott-Keller, Javance Henderson
Featuring a live performance by:
Makana (Makana Curtiss)
Makana is a performance artist with eclectic passions. Over the past six years she has devoted herself to many different mediums of artistic expression including traditional storytelling, burlesque, ritual theater, African dance performance, singing and songwriting, rapping and modeling. She is also a professional choreographer/dancer who specializes in movement inspired by story.
EXHIBIT DATES: December 6, 2019 through February 2020. Exhibit HOURS: M-TH Noon-4PM
