Rebecca Coupe Franks Sextet Featuring Claire Daly and Jessica Jones

Rebecca Coupe Franks is back with a new release of original tunes on Check the Box. Trumpeter, composer, producer, bandleader, Franks wears many hats, including running her own recording studio (RCF Music Studio) and record label (RCF Records). With Check the Box, her fifth album, she adds singing to her roster of impressive talents. As a composer and performer Rebecca likes to mix all forms of jazz. In doing so, she has come up with an inimitable sound of her own. Mainstream jazz, Latin rhythms, blues/gospel, pop, all come together in a finely woven sonic tapestry. Franks began playing trumpet at age ten. By her mid-teens she was playing professional gigs. The legendary jazz saxophonist Joe Henderson heard her play at a Bay Area jam session and became an early mentor. In the '80s, Franks moved to New York City to attend the New School jazz studies program. Immersing herself in New York City's jazz community, she gained valuable experience performing with top jazz artists Kenny Barron, Victor Lewis, and Lou Donaldson. By the '90s, she was leading her own recording sessions and getting recognized for her efforts in Down Beat and Rolling Stone. 1990's Suit of Armor featured an all-star lineup of Kenny Barron, Buster Williams, Ben Riley, and Joe Henderson. All of a Sudden, from 1991, had fellow ex-Californians Donny McCaslin and Scott Colley on board. In 1996, Rebecca returned to the West Coast to use California as her home base. The release of Check the Box marks another milestone in her remarkable career.
