Multiple Grammy award-winning jazz trumpeter/composer Roy Hargrove has always explored diverse music, from Caribbean to funk and straight ahead jazz to pop, winning Grammy Awards for 1998’s Habana with his Afro-Cuban group Crisol and 2002’s Directions in Music with Herbie Hancock and Michael Brecker. Most recently the back-to-basics, straight-ahead Roy Hargrove Quintet explores post-bop modern jazz while maintaining melodic simplicity. The Quintet’s latest album is the acclaimed Ear Food, comprised of the richly colored musical snapshots Hargrove composes so well.
