About Seeing Purple: A Community NIght of Healing Before the Elections

Join artist and psychotherapist, Andrew Purchin for a brief talk and art activity. Andrew will premiere a video, “The Curious End to the War Against Ourselves” describing his pilgrimage to the Republican and Democratic conventions. There, he and his team encouraged people to paint on a 180-foot scroll while guiding them to find inner calm and compassion towards those whom they judge.

The evening will conclude with a group activity with the scroll. Be prepared to get your hands messy! To become more compassionate toward those we disagree with is not an easy thing.

The video includes interviews with a range of people, including delegates, activists, evangelists, teachers, artists, business people, locals, and even the co-founder of Latinos for Trump, who made art for the first time. This is the same man who later said, "if you don't do something about it (immigration), your going to have taco trucks on every corner."

The discord in our country is like a knot.
To untie it, you need to create slack. Depending on how you are holding the knot, that can mean pushing instead of pulling. Be gentle but firm—tugging the wrong way too hard can just tighten the knot further. Move on to a different pair of loops until the knot loosens. Keep working the knot from different angles, trying different combinations until you get one or two spots of looseness. (wikiHow)
