Start By Believing Day

When someone tells you they were raped or sexually assaulted, knowing how to respond is critical. A negative response can worsen the trauma and foster an environment where perpetrators face no consequences for their crimes.

Start by Believing stops this cycle by improving our personal and professional reactions.

Please join The City of Santa Cruz Commission for the Prevention of Violence Against Women and the Santa Cruz Police Department Wednesday, April 4th at 12:30PM to hear our Chief of Police, members of city council, local service providers and sexual assault survivors speak about the importance of believing survivors stories.

You will also be invited to take the Start By Believing pledge at this event.

The “Start By Believing Day” Campaign is a global effort to transform the way we, as community members, advocates, law enforcement and the criminal legal system, respond to sexual assault.
