About Vive Oaxaca Calenda (Parade) & Fiesta

Senderos invites you to join the parade and FREE music, dance, food fiesta to preview the Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza. The Calenda is a traditional Oaxacan procession starting at 4:00 pm at the corner of Branciforte Avenue and Water Street (Branciforte Small Schools Campus) in Santa Cruz, walk along Water Street sidewalk to the Town Clock for a short performance and then down Pacific Avenue to Abbott Square, 118 Cooper Street arriving about 5:00 pm. There will be wonderful Banda de Viento music by CIS No. 8 students visiting from Zoogocho, Oaxaca, dancing by Centeotl Danza y Baile, and music by Senderos' youth band Ensamble Musical. Oaxacan food for sale to benefit Senderos, an all-volunteer nonprofit in Santa Cruz providing free dance and music classes, tutoring and scholarships for Latino youth. The Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza cultural festival will take place Sunday, May 15 at Harbor High School field from 9 am-5 pm.
